I know we all have our experiences of him. Since I host this website, I
can take the liberty to tell mine. From the first time I met Ervin he
liked me. I was always surprised that he did. He even liked my
playing. I loved his big hugs. I always wanted to make him
proud. I always wanted to play with him whenever I could....even if it had
to be keyboards. There was a very genuine feeling we had for each
other which we shared on stage to his side yard on 5th & Pecos boiling
crawfish and alligator, drinking beer on Saturday afternoon or Sunday afternoon
listening to the AM Radio blues station from Port Arthur play killer set after
killer set.
My regret is that I didn't get to know him longer or more deeply. What
little time I had with him I will always cherish as special time spent with a
very gifted and giving human being, who was also one of the very best blues
stylists I have ever met. I only hope to do his memory proud.
Ervin
Charles left this world on April..., 2000.
